A comprehensive data duplication and map document transporting utility, allowing you to copy ArcGIS 8.x (mxd) map documents and referenced data sources to a specified output location.
- Also available for ArcView 3.x
- An essential item for your GIS toolkit, especially if you need to share ArcGIS map documents via CD or need to replicate historical data from information sources that change daily.
- Simply choose a map document for copying and specify an output location. All referenced data sources are copied with the map document. Directory and folder structures are maintained. Once the copy has been made, the map document can be burned to a CD or any other backup medium, providing a historical snapshot of all data, available to anyone on request.
- Most data types are supported including shapefiles, coverages, grids, image files and ER Mapper virtual dataset algorithms. Additionally, Project Copier supports personal and remote geodatabases, and ArcSDE™ datasets. Data can be referenced from both local and network locations.
- Uses relative paths so you can open the new map document from any location – CD, local drive, or network path.
- New features include:
- Data Export Options
Users have several new options for copying and exporting data that allows extraction of a subset of the input data
instead of the whole layer.
To copy layers in full, choose the following option:
Or, to extract a subset of the input data, choose from the following options:
- Clip features to the visible dataframe
- Export features within visible dataframe
- Clip selected features to visible dataframe
- Export selected features
- Advanced Data Options Dialog
Another new feature for MXD Copier 4.0 is the Advanced Data Options dialog. Options include converting data
between various supported data types, and transforming the output data using the display coordinate system.
New data conversion options available in the Advanced Data Options dialog:
- Convert Dbase Tables to:
- Personal Geodatabase Tables
- Convert Shapefiles to:
- Personal Geodatabase Feature Classes
- Convert Personal Geodatabase Feature Classes to:
- Convert Personal Geodatabase Tables to…
- Convert SDE Geodatabase Feature Classes to:
- Personal Geodatabase Feature Classes
- Shapefiles
- Convert SDE Geodatabase Tables to:
- Personal Geodatabase Tables
- Dbase Tables
- Convert SDE Rasters to:
New output coordinate system options available in the Advanced Data Options dialog:
- Use the coordinate system from each layer’s source data
- User the coordinate system from the dataframe
- Corporate Log Tracking
A corporate logging option is now available for organizations that wish to track the copying of sensitive map data.
MXD Copier produces a log file in the output folder each time it is run. When corporate logging is enabled, the log
file can be either copied to a network location or sent to a nominated e-mail account.
- General Enhancements
General enhancements included with MXD Copier 4.0 are listed below:
- Ability to process multiple map documents in a single batch processing run.
- New options for structuring the output folder: either maintain the original folder structures as
subdirectories under the output folder, or output all data to a single folder level.
- Joined and related tables are now supported.
- Related metadata files are now copied with shapefile data to the output location. (Note: Metadata is not
copied when the options specified involve exporting the data as in the case of exporting selected, visible or
clipped).
- New option to automatically re-open the original (current) map document when processing is complete.
- Copies only the loaded layers from a personal geodatabase rather than the entire personal geodatase.
- Removes unsupported layers that did not copy from the output map document.
